N-squared Lab Secures EU Funding for Life-Changing Neuroorthosis Project

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded €150,000 to the “PlayAgain” project at AIBE’s N-squared Lab. The team, led by Prof. Dr. Alessandro Del Vecchio, is developing a groundbreaking neural interface to help children regain hand movement after paralysis.
Using advanced AI and brain-machine interface technology, the project aims to restore connections between the brain and forearm muscles, offering hope for significantly improved quality of life. “The current funding is about testing our basic research for possible application in children,” explains Prof. Dr. Alessandro Del Vecchio, N-squared Lab director and project manager of “PlayAgain”. “We want to develop a neuromotor interface that will help children with neuromotor impairments of the hand to increase activation of the forearm muscles. This should, for example, enable intuitive control of a neuroorthosis for active gripping in the future.”
If successful, this prototype neuroorthosis could open the door to millions in additional funding and offer new possibilities for children with neuromotor impairments.
